How to show up in ChatGPT answers

Last updated 23 October 2026

More buyers now ask an AI assistant who to buy from: “best caterer in Lahore”, “a good dentist near DHA”, “which accounting software for a small shop”. The assistant answers with a short list of names. If you are not on it, you are invisible to that buyer.

There is no trick that forces an AI to recommend you, and anyone who guarantees it is guessing. Google itself says its AI features need no special optimisation beyond good SEO. What you can do is make your business easy for an AI to describe with confidence. That is most of the game.

1. Check what AI says today

Before changing anything, ask. Put five questions a real buyer would type to ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, with web search on. Note who gets named, and what each assistant says about you. Our AI search visibility service does this across 25+ questions and tracks it monthly.

Run it more than once: answers change from run to run, so look for patterns, not a single result.

2. Write one clear sentence about what you do and where

AI assistants lift descriptions from your site. If your homepage opens with a slogan, they have nothing to quote. Put a plain sentence near the top and in your meta description:

Ember Kitchen delivers high-protein meal-prep boxes to homes and offices across Lahore.

What you do, for whom, and where. Use the same sentence on your Google profile and social bios.

3. Let the AI crawlers in

Check your robots.txt file. Some site builders and security plugins block AI crawlers such as GPTBot (ChatGPT), ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot by default. If they cannot read your site, they cannot describe you. The Site X-ray checks this in its AI READY row.

4. Answer the questions buyers ask

AI assistants love clear question-and-answer content because it is easy to quote. Add an FAQ section to your key pages with the questions customers actually ask: prices, areas you cover, delivery times, what makes you different. Mark it up with FAQ schema so search engines can read it as questions and answers.

5. Add structured data

Structured data (schema) is a small block of code that tells machines who you are: business name, address, phone, opening hours, prices, reviews. Add LocalBusiness or Organization schema to your homepage at minimum. It removes guesswork, and guesswork is when AI picks someone else.

6. Keep your details identical everywhere

Your name, address, phone number and opening hours should match exactly on your website, Google Business Profile, Facebook, Instagram, directories and anywhere else you are listed. Conflicting details make AI less confident, and less confident means less likely to name you.

7. Earn reviews and mentions

AI answers lean on what the rest of the web says about you: reviews, local news, partner sites, “best of” lists. Ask every customer for a review (not just the happy ones, which can get your profile restricted), reply to reviews, and look for honest chances to be featured. Bought links and fake reviews break Google’s rules and can backfire.

8. Track it monthly

Because answers vary, one check means little. Ask the same questions every month and count how often you are named, in which answers, and next to whom. That trend is your real score.

The short version

Be clear about what you do, let the crawlers in, answer real questions, mark up your details, keep them consistent, and earn genuine mentions. It is ordinary SEO done properly, measured in a new place.
